OSHA Fined Ohio Companies for Safety Violations

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has mentioned American Warming and Ventilating Inc. companies based in Bradner, Ohio, and Ohio Decorative Products, a die cast metal products producer in Spencerville — for safety infringements.

OSHA has advised penalties in the American Warming and Ventilation with the amount of $55,500 and $91,000 for Ohio Decorative Products.

OSHA unfolded a review at American Warming and Ventilating Inc. in January due to the eminent injury and illness paces parallel to the national rates, OSHA said.

As a resolution of the review, OSHA came out 6 dangerous violations for lack of right fall protection gear, improper electrical lockout and tag-out processes to prevent accidental energize start-up, deficiency in proper machine guarding, indeed of proper training for maintenance workers on power press equipment, improper welding conductors and not enough eye protection during welding.

The company also got 2 reprise violations for breaking to have right machine guarding and to allow employees approved electrical protective equipment.

The company is one of 30 companies under Mestek Inc., it was inspected by OSHA 6 times in the preceding year at this position, leading in 12 violations. There have been 40 reviews for Mestek Inc. companies, leading in 161 violations.

December 2009, the federal agency spread out an inspection in Ohio Decorative Products after obtaining a report that an employee was scalped when his hair was snarled in an unguarded rotating shaft on a piece of equipment.

The citations issued after inspection — one willful, one repeat and one serious — were all for the employer breaking down to render right machine guarding on equipment.

Each company has fifteen business days from acknowledgment of its penalties and citations to follow request an informal group discussion with OSHA’s area director or contest the findings prior to the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC).
