New EPA rule to be enforced soon
A fresh U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule that takes effect April 22, 2010 will have a substantial impact on construction contractors.
The EPA’s RRP Rule demands contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in dwellings where children under six and/or pregnant women live to be certified and abide particular work practices to prevent lead contamination.
The New EPA rule also includes installation of windows, and also enforces to child care facilities, day care centers and schools built before 1978.
The EPA’s RRP Rule doesn’t apply to minor maintenance or fix activities where fewer than six (6) square feet of lead-based paint is agitated in a room or where fewer than twenty (20) square feet of lead-based paint is disturbed on the exterior.
The execution of the EPA’s RRP rule could have a substantial impact on contractors who do restoration work.
