EPA Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification Deadline
To support this important initiative, we will continue to host courses to train and certify contractors in accordance with the EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting Final Rule (40 CRF 745) both before and after the April 22, 2010 deadline.
Under this rule, contractors and property managers performing RRP projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 are required to take the 8 hour certification course, and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination in all projects. The course covers the health effects, regulations, lead safe work practices, containment, cleaning & record keeping requirements. This course was developed by the U.S. EPA in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to train contractors and dust sampling technicians on how to comply with the EPA’s RRP rule and HUD’s Lead Safe Housing rule.
OSHA10and30.com is proud to be one of the few accredited training centers approved to provide the RRP certification course through the National Center for Healthy Housing and to support this very important initiative protecting our children from the terrible effects of lead poisoning. According to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 310,000 children in the U.S. have elevated levels of lead in their blood, causing the EPA to name childhood lead poisoning “A major environmental health problem in the U.S.”
Contractors who work in pre-1978 dwellings and who might disturb painted surfaces while doing plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, tile, window replacement, landscaping, repairs, construction, renovation, remodeling, HVAC, demolition, plus many other jobs should take this course and achieve certification. The RRP rule also applies to people who work for rental property owners, schools, and day care providers as well as non-profits and government agencies.
