Usual renovation natural process like cutting, demolition, and sanding can create hazardous lead dust and bits by stirring up lead-based paint, which can be adverse to adults and children according to Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) standard.

To protect against this hazard, on April 22, 2008, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a rule calling for the use of lead-safe practices and other activities aimed at avoiding lead poisoning. Under the RRP rule, setting out in April 2010, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that trouble lead-based paint in child care facilities, and homes, schools made-up before 1978 must be qualified and must abide particular work practices to prevent lead contamination.

Until that time, state agency recommends that anyone doing renovation, repair, and painting projects that agitate lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, schools, and child care facilities observe lead-safe work practices.

Under the renovation, repair and painting (RRP) rule, child-occupied facilities are defined as commercial buildings, public or residential where children below the age 6 are present on a steady basis. The necessaries apply to renovation, repair or painting activities. The formula doesn't apply to small fry maintenance or fix activities where lower than 6 square feet of lead-based paint is agitated in a room or where lower then 20 square feet of lead-based paint is stirred up on the exterior. RRP Information for Training Providers

Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule courses were developed by the EPA, together with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to train redevelopment, repair, and painting contractors and debris trying out technicians on how to abide by with EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) rule, and Housing and Urban Development (HUD)'s Lead Safe Housing rule. The State Agency will not be building up a model Dust Sampling Technician refresher training at this time.
